A couple of weeks ago we saw the 1st year anniversary of Wilson’s Republic, Huddersfield’s design network. How quickly the four events have come around is hard to believe, and it feels like the start of something very special!
To celebrate, a great speaker line up was announced and both with local connections. Shay Moradi from design and development company RITH, who have worked with the likes of the Gadet Show and Gadet Man reflected upon many of the studio’s firsts (the nights theme). Then came John Lee, who is a model maker/art director who’s impressive catalogue of work includes working on Terror Hawks, Aliens, Casino Royal, Moon, The Martian and the eagerly awaited Star Wars: Rouge One & Episode 8. Its fair to say both Shay and John filled the room with their enthusiasm and left everyone inspired by their talks.
Once again Boy Oliver was the DJ for the night with his eclectic mix of funk and soul filling the great space in Bates Mill. Bean Brothers provided everyone with some tasty food and drinks as well as delicious coffee tasting, that is also roasted in Bates Mill. Foilco, the event sponsor, brought a shedload of printed goodness and the knowledge to inspire everyone about foil print techniques. Studio pal Peter O’Toole was on poster design duty and collated the great and good of Huddersfield for the poster, which was hand screen printed and available to pick up on the night.
WR5 will take place on the 27th of October, venue and speakers to be confirmed later, so watch this space.
